Chef Chan - before it closes for good!

Here's more of the signature dishes!

The sharks' fin soup with crab roe was true to its name, unlike the kind you'll get at wedding dinners. You can tell from the colour of the soup that there was generous portion of crab roe, likewise for the sharks' fin.

The black pepper beef tenderloin was not very nicely presented but this was quickly compensated by the tenderness of the beef. The dish is not overpriced at all - the meat altogether is actually equivalent to a steak you would get at any reputable western restaurant. However, I had wished there was less black pepper to taste the beef better.

The sauteed prawns was nicely done with the wasabi sauce not being overwhelming.

The Kai Lan with superior stock is just...Kai Lan.

The Lao Po Bing is very unconventional yet traditional...try it and you'll know what I mean. The egg tarts? I just couldn't resist...

    Surabaya Indonesian Food

Many similar Indonesian restaurants have sprouted at Lucky Plaza in the last one year or so.

This small restaurant at level 2 is a hit with many local Indonesians as well as Malays.

They specialise in Ayam Penyet, which means smashed fried chicken. Each serving costs $5, and comes with a small piece of fried beancurd and tempeh, but without rice. Almost every dish is served with hot chilli, even the gado-gado.

The cendol drink is nice too, but I still prefer one with red bean.

    Seah Imm Food Centre

Old but not out...this hawker centre still boasts of some good food. Good alternative if you do not know what to eat at Harbourfront or Vivocity.

Hokkien Mee and satay are a regular must have ;)

New find is the Thaksin Beef Noodles. Nice!

    Red Star Restaurant

One of the surviving restaurants opened by the 'Four Heavenly Kings' chefs, this Chin Swee Road "resident" is still full house, with many others queueing and waiting. Too bad, cos they do not accept reservations for lunch.

There are said to be more than 90 items on their dim sum trolleys...so you get to try more if you are with a larger group. Most of the items on steamers are about $3, with some special items (like the jellyfish) overpriced at $9. Tea at $2. Subjected to 5% service charge and GST.

Be warned, if you want to yum cha on weekends, you better come before 11 am...
